What is therapy?Therapy is a collaborative effort between the therapist and client to work on identified goals. These goals may include improving relationships, increasing healthy communication, reducing symptoms of anxiety or depression, or adjusting to recent life changes. I use evidence-based practices to help you achieve these goals. Therapy works best when the work is done in and outside of session. It is important to apply the skills taught in session to receive the maximum benefit. It can be hard work and the benefit can be life changing!

What can I expect on my first visit?Seeing a therapist for the first time can feel daunting, so our first priority is making sure you feel comfortable. During your initial session, I will try to get a good understanding of your concerns and your goals for therapy. I will provide feedback and recommendations for treatment approaches that are likely to be effective and the number of sessions you might need to see improvements. ‘Fit’ is important, so you’ll have the chance to ask questions and determine whether I am right for you. You may feel ready to make another appointment at the end of the first consultation, or you can think about it. I want you to leave your first session feeling heard, respected and understood, with a good idea of what your therapy options are and a sense of confidence in my ability to help you make positive changes.
-
How many sessions will I need?I'm committed to providing effective, tailored therapy. There are no hard and fast rules about the length of treatment, so this will largely be determined by the nature of your concerns. You’ll chat about this at your first appointment and together we'll decide on a plan you’re comfortable with. Clients typically attend between 8-15 sessions, with some requiring fewer sessions and others more if they’re experiencing more complex difficulties.
-
Is everything I say confidential?Everything you say is confidential in all circumstances except those where there is a threat of harm to yourself, others, or if someone is harming you. In such cases, I am obligated to report these concerns. Otherwise, everything you share will be kept confidential.
