Approach to Care

My approach to treatment is authentic, holistic, and empathic. I draw from the models of dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, internal family systems, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

Through dialectical behavior therapy, I incorporate skills training to assist individuals in strengthening interpersonal and emotion regulation skills. In session, I integrate in-vivo mindfulness exercises to help individuals feel grounded and present. I also utilize acceptance and commitment therapy to increase flexible thinking, identification of personal values, and meaning in life.

I utilize EMDR and IFS to guide trauma treatment. IFS therapy focuses on internal parts and their relationships within the psyche, promoting self-awareness and internal harmony to address trauma-related symptoms. On the other hand, EMDR specifically targets the reprocessing of traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation to facilitate adaptive processing and reduce distress associated with these memories. Both approaches can be valuable in trauma treatment, and the choice of therapy may depend on individual needs and preferences.

Therapy is most effective when skills are practiced outside of session. I often give
clients “homework” to reinforce skills and help build confidence. This homework may be to reflect on a part of our session or to practice a specific skill throughout the week. I work collaboratively with clients to tailor therapy to each client’s needs, challenges, and goals.

More About Me

Outside of work, I like to explore new parks with my therapy dog, Louie.  I enjoy watching crime shows, trying new flavors of ice cream, and visiting different coffee shops.
